Finally got my oats sown!

I was amazed this morning to finally see a lettuce seedling I must have planted the seed tape 6 weeks ago (probably a bit too deeply) especially as I had left them outside by accident and there was a frost last night.

Sadly, as part of my de-cluttering of gardening stuff I cut up the raised bed and took it to the recycling centre. It must be 3 or so years old.

So has taken a day or so (as I have been de-cluttering some of my gardening stuff) but this afternoon I finally sowed my oats (pardon Vicar?),  to be specific Glasnevin Sonas Oats from Irish Seed Savers.

So that's the oats sow and covered with straw.

I've been saving any Calendula seedlings I find :)

I had hoped to keep the spinach plants but they are all pretty poor so I will pull them Monday.

Next is to sow my wheat and start plant more seed trays.

I also want to start putting some seedlings outside to harden (not yet as frost predicted again tonight) but I must make them slug proof!

Now to cycle home :)

Continued weeding and took green waste to recyling centre.

Cycled down to the allotment again and continued weeding and tying up bean/pea mesh.

Made draft plan:

Later took green waste to recycling centre and plants and compost to allotment.

Started weeding 2nd double row for later planting of my beans and peas.

Did a nice bit of weeding today. Didn't realise how wet I was getting in the very fine drizzle!

So when done I should have two rows with mesh supports for my beans/peas :)

Before..

And after...

I've added wire to hold the beans / peas :)

Must stake down my plastic greenhouse!

Finally got back to the allotments after the best part of a week to see my greenhouse blown down! Arrrgh! Along with the seed trays I went up to check!

All fixed now but I must stake it down!

But all growing well - especially the weeds!

The cucumber from Tom is definitely a happy camper!

Drove up and took a few pictures for Shane

Had CYS MakerSpace Zoom meeting earlier and Shane of CYS then contacted me. So I've volunteered to weed their plot until they're up and running :)

Was also chatting to Liam about drones and researching as I got my MACI membership today so should be able to get allotment aerial shots this weekend. Weather and Denis permitting :)

I didn't water as we've been having plenty of light showers, strong gusty winds and even some late sunshine.

But all looking good :)

Worked compost bin and made four seed trays

This morning I worked on the compost heap in my backyard. This is a test bed for much larger ones we hope to have at the allotments.

I found out three things:
1) I must rework more often, say once a month, as the spuds were growing!
2) Use a hand axe to smash and/or chop up large veg
3) Worms love matted paper - but I'm better to put it in scrunched up.

I re-instated the temp sensor and got these results.

In the afternoon I briefly cycled to the allotment and created four seed trays: perpetual spinach, turnips, wild rocket (wasabi) and greyhound cabbage.

We had some rain overnight so things looking healthy. But I filled upwater barrel anyway.
